Manhattan Project National Historical Park in Oak Ridge, Tennessee invites youth to learn to fish! This new program aims to promote fishing as an educational, safe, and enjoyable outdoor recreational opportunity to connect youth, ages 12 and under, with the park and their local waters.During each program, youth will work with park rangers and volunteers to learn the basics of fishing, from knot tying to being respectful stewards of the river. These activities, along with hands-on fishing, will earn them a Junior Ranger Angler badge. Each participant will be provided with a fishing pole and basic tackle to use during the program. At the conclusion of the program, our youth-visitors will be given their Junior Ranger Angler Badge and fishing equipment to keep.   This program was made possible with a grant from the National Park Foundation.The National Park Foundation (NPF) is a nonprofit leader and catalyst in safeguarding America's 430+ national parks and ensuring they are accessible and enjoyable — for everyone, forever. As the official nonprofit partner to the National Park Service, NPF works to conserve and preserve threatened wildlife and land, inspire the next generation of park stewards, tell the complete story of American history, and ensure a world-class visitor experience. Fishing equipment is limited to first-time participants only. Reservations are required, and space is limited. Due to the hands-on nature of this program, registration is required for all participants. Please indicate the number of youths, ages 12 and younger, when registering. Manhattan Project National Historical Park will present a free program in Jackson Square. Jackson Square, or Town Center No. 1, formed the social and economic center of the wartime community of Oak Ridge. Stroll through the townsite to learn how Oak Ridgers created community in the atomic city. During the walk, rangers and visitors will discuss what it took to shape Oak Ridge during World War II through routines and traditions brought from near and far. Program ends at the Jackson Square Tennis Courts right on time for the Tennis Court Dance.

Put on your dancing shoes, another summer of Tennis Court Dances are kicking off on the Jackson Square Tennis Courts. Held monthly on the third Thursday, Manhattan Project National Historical Park recreates the open air tennis court dances held during the Manhattan Project to entertain the 75,000 war workers and their families contained within America’s Secret City.The dances are an all-ages event, and all are encouraged to participate. Featuring swing music from the 1940s, you might get bit by the jitterbug out on the court. Water, bug repellent and safe footwear is encouraged.The 2026 Summer Season of Tennis Court Dances will be held on May 21, June 18, July 16, August 20, September 17, and October 15, 2026.
